Laurence - Royal Navy, dur. Granby - Royal Air Force. Tharkay - A Phoenix Wright-ish ex-lawyer. Without the hobo. And I think the dragons must be really buffed up creatures in the 21st century, like, Temeraire would be able to take ten missiles in the face, eat them, and spit them back out at the enemy.
